Chiropractors are "real doctors". Surprising to many people, a Chiropractor’s
education is similar to a Medical Doctor’s (MD) and in many subjects, chiropractors
receive more education than a MD! Chiropractic students receive more hours of
classroom instruction than medical students in several areas including, anatomy,
diagnosis, microbiology, neurology, nutrition, orthopedics, and X-ray. What
chiropractors do not get an emphasis on is pharmacology and surgery.
Chiropractic schools require anywhere from a two to four year degree prior
to entrance. Chiropractic school itself is five years.
After earning a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree, the education process does
not stop. Chiropractors must pass 3 (and in some cases 4) National Board examinations.
Chiropractors must then pass their own state examinations before becoming licensed
to practice in that state.
Chiropractors must also fulfill Continuing Education requirements each year
in order to renew their chiropractic license.
